My Hometown: Ben Hamer

By: Watford FC Staff

In the ‘My Hometown’ series, the Golden Boys reflect on their humble beginnings, lifting the lid on what’s special about the place they call home.

Next up is goalkeeper Ben Hamer, who hails from Chard, England...

How would you describe your hometown?

I left at 16, and I never thought there was loads to do there. The only thing they used to have was ‘Blobbyland’, which I enjoyed when I was younger. It was a theme park for kids, and now it’s a country club. Noel Edmonds was a resident there, so he used to get involved.

Traditional dish?

It’s fry-up central! They do a great English fry-up, but there’s not just one famous dish from Chard.

Drink you’d have with it?

I’d have a cider. Cider is a big drink around there, with Thatchers Cider originating from Somerset.

Favourite restaurant?

Windwhistle Golf Club in Chard is a really good place. They do everything there.

Sight you have to see?

The statue of John Stringfellow. He was the person who took part in the first-ever powered flight, which happened in Chard.

If you could introduce a visitor to one person?

Andy Caddick - the cricketer - used to live in Chard. Also, David Craig from Sky Sports lives in Chard and he does our games. In the summer, I used to go to the gym and he was always in there. He’s a great guy.
