Women: Southampton (A) Preview - January 21

Watford FC Women return to league action this Sunday (January 21, 2pm KO) with Damon Lathrope's side heading down the M3 to take on Southampton in the Barclays Women's Championship.

Coming off the back of a strong defensive display which saw his team keep Women's Super League giants Arsenal at bay for large parts of their FA Cup tie last weekend, the Head Coach will be looking for more of the same this time out.

As the Golden Girls head south, here’s everything you need to know…

The Ground

The game is being played at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium.

The all-seater ground can hold more than 32,000 fans and hosted matches at the UEFA European Women's Championship in 2022, including England's match with Northern Ireland.

Fans will be situated in the Kingsland Stand to the west of the stadium.

Tickets

Tickets for the game can be bought online HERE and are priced at £9 for Adults and £3 for under-18s. The stadium ticket office is open on matchday from 9.30am until half-time.

The Match

The Golden Girls got off to a blistering start in their last league game as they put three past London City Lionesses inside the opening seven minutes.

The game ended in a 3-3 draw, but following last week’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup defeat at the hands of Arsenal, the Hornets will be full of confidence as they continue their bid for Championship safety.

Goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel goes straight into the squad following her dual-sign arrival from Manchester United yesterday.

Southampton, the third highest scorers in the league, will be hoping they make it as difficult as possible for the new Hornets signing.

The teams last met at Grosvenor Vale in October, when a first half strike from Sophia Pharoah gave the visitors the advantage.

Milly Mott's dismissal in the opening moments of the second half gave the Golden Girls a new sense of hope, but as they pushed to find an all important equaliser they were caught on the break and Molly Pike slotted home in the 99th minute to seal a 2-0 victory and leave Lathrope’s side ruing a missed opportunity.
