Women: Birmingham City (H) Preview - February 4

By: Watford FC Staff

Following an important 2-0 away win at Durham, Watford FC Women return home for the first time in 2024 as they host Birmingham City tomorrow (February 4, 2pm KO) in the Barclays Women's Championship.

Buoyed by a first league victory since September 2023 against the Wildcats in which Carly Johns struck after just two minutes, the Golden Girls will be hoping for another fast start back on home soil.

Sunday also provides a first opportunity for the Hornets faithful to see new signings Safia Middleton-Patel and Cerys Brown in action.

The Match

The Golden Girls head into Sunday’s match having kept just a second clean sheet of the season when they made the long journey north to Durham last time out.

The defensive unit has been strengthened during the January window, with the addition of Middleton-Patel providing competition in goal, and Brown arriving late in the window to provide reinforcements across the back line.

Last time the two sides met, Birmingham City ran out 5-2 victors, as three first-half goals for the hosts seemed to put the game to bed.

Carly Johns struck early in the second half to hand the Golden Girls a lifeline, before a sucker-punch just six minutes later restored the three-goal gap, with a late goal apiece closing out the scoring.

Watford will be looking to build from their success in Durham having reduced the gap to safety to three points.

A win on Sunday would give them the opportunity to lift themselves off the bottom of the table for the first time since December.

Get down to Grosvenor Vale and show the Hornets your support.
