Stats Buzz: Swansea City In Numbers

By: Watford FC Staff

It will be a quick turnaround after Watford’s four-goal victory over Stoke City, as the Hornets prepare to face Swansea City on Wednesday (October 5, 7.45pm KO) in Slaven Bilić’s first match at The Vic.

Ahead of the important fixture in the Sky Bet Championship, we take a look at some of the stats, facts and figures that surround the clash...

Previous Meetings

Watford have won six of their last nine home league matches against Swansea City, including the most recent meeting at Vicarage Road in May 2021.

Swansea failed to score in their last league meeting with Watford, but only twice have they failed to score in successive league meetings with the Hornets (August 1921 and April 2017).

The Golden Boys have scored in their last five home games in the Football League against the Swans, for the first time since December 1948. The Hornets have never done so in six successive games before.

The Welsh side haven’t lost consecutive league games against Watford outside the top-flight since a run of four consecutive losses in the fourth-tier between April 1976 and October 1977.

Recent Form

The Hornets’ 4-0 victory over Stoke City last time out was their biggest win in the Football League since beating Bristol City 6-0 in February 2021. Indeed, Watford haven’t won successive league games since August 2021, with the first of those wins coming at home against Swansea.

Swansea have won three of their last four league games. They’ve only won three league matches on the bounce once before under Russell Martin, doing so in April of last season.

Newly-appointed Watford boss Bilić could become just the fourth different manager in the club’s history to win each of his first two league games in charge, and the first since Colin Lee in March 1990.

Swansea have lost just one of their last seven away league games in midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). Although, home and away the Swans are yet to win any of their midweek league games this season.

Opposition Stat Attack

Striker Joël Piroe leads the way for goals scored for the Swans this season with four, with the Dutch forward also top for shots on target (17) and shots off target (11).

Oliver Ntcham and Matthew Sorinola are top for assists in the ranks so far this campaign with two each. Elsewhere in the midfield, Matt Grimes is first for passes attempted (988), passes in his own half (456) and passes in the opposition’s half (523).

Defensively, centre-back Nathan Wood is top for blocks (4), interceptions (18) and clearances (40).
