Internationals: The Hornets’ September Call-Ups Confirmed

By: Watford FC Staff

Seven Hornets have been called up to their respective international sides, as the Sky Bet Championship takes a break until the weekend of Saturday September 16 when Birmingham City will be the visitors at Vicarage Road (3pm KO).

Watford skipper Daniel Bachmann has returned to the Austria fold as his national side prepare to face Moldova (September 7, 7.30pm KO UK time) in an international friendly, before playing Sweden in Stockholm (September 12, 7.45pm KO UK time) in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

A familiar face potentially facing the goalkeeper will be Ken Sema, who has also earned a call-up to the Swedish national team. The winger could be in line to face Estonia (September 9, 5pm KO UK time) and Bachmann’s Austria during matchday five and six of the European qualifiers.

Giorgi Chakvetadze will be looking to add to his existing cap total of 16 for Georgia when they face Spain (September 8, 5pm KO UK time) and Norway (September 12, 7.45pm KO UK time) in their campaign to secure a place at Euro 2024.

Ryan Porteous will also be in action during the international break as Scotland continue their own European campaign to qualify for the 2024 edition of the tournament.

The centre-half will be available to face Cyprus in Larnaca (September 8, 7.45pm KO UK time) before going head-to-head with rivals England (September 12, 7.45pm KO) in an exhibition match at Hampden Park.

Away from Europe, Edo Kayembe has joined up with DR Congo as they look to confirm their spot in the Africa Cup of Nations. The midfielder could potentially feature against Sudan (September 9, 5pm KO UK time) in the final match of the qualification stage, with Kayembe’s international side currently top of group I.

The 25-year-old will also be in the DR Congo squad to face South Africa (September 12, 4pm KO UK time) in an international friendly.

As mentioned last week, full-back Ryan Andrews has been named in England’s 24-man Under-20 squad. Taking part in the training camp at St George’s Park, Andrews continues his impressive rise through the ranks for both club and country.

Elsewhere, Under-21 starlet Jonathan Macaulay will join up with Sweden’s Under-19 squad as they prepare for a four-nation tournament alongside Norway, Denmark and Poland.

The shot-stopper will play Norway in the opener (September 7, 3pm KO UK time) before facing either Denmark or Poland three days later on September 10 (1pm KO UK time).
