News: Andrews Called Up By England Under-20s

By: Watford FC Staff

Young Watford defender Ryan Andrews has been named in England’s 24-man Under-20 squad for a forthcoming five-day training camp at St George’s Park.

The 19-year-old will link up with the Young Lions for the first time on Monday September 4 - just two days after the Hornets’ next Sky Bet Championship clash at Coventry City - as Interim Head Coach Joe Edwards looks towards October’s new Euro Under-20 Elite League.

England will kick off their games next month with a trip to play Romania in Bucharest on October 12, before a home match - with date and venue TBC - against Portugal.

International recognition marks the latest step in Andrews’ rapid rise to prominence following his professional debut against Reading in the Emirates FA Cup in January, with the Academy product finishing 2022/23 with seven first-team appearances to his name.

Since then he’s gone from strength to strength and firmly established himself in Valérien Ismaël’s plans, earning his first start of the new campaign in the second league game of 2023/24 and featuring five times in all competitions as it stands.

Congratulations, Ryan!
