Women: Ward & Rogers Called Up By Wales

We are pleased to reveal that Helen Ward and Morgan Rogers have been called up to Wales’ squad for their upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Welsh will play two games in April, as they look to put themselves in a good position to potentially qualify for the final tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

While it’s a big international window for the team, there could also be a couple of very important landmarks from an individual perspective.

Having played at several age-ranges at youth level, Rogers has since progressed to the senior set-up. The 19-year-old will now be hoping to earn her first cap.

After a long and successful career so far, Ward already has 99 caps to her name. Wales’ record goalscorer is now only one appearance away from reaching three figures for her country.

There’ll be two opportunities for the Golden Girls’ captain to reach that significant and hugely impressive milestone, with matches on April 8 and April 12.

It’s a key one first up. Wales are currently in a play-off spot in Group I (second place), and they’ll take on the leaders France in Llanelli.

While a goal late in each half saw Les Bleues just end up victorious in the reverse encounter, Ward, Rogers, and the rest of the team will be looking to turn that around and secure a huge result in front of a vocal home crowd.

It’s then off to Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan. Wales triumphed 6-0 in the reverse fixture back in September and will be confident of returning home with three points, despite the distance and time-zone challenges.

Rogers and Ward will both head off to the Welsh camp after Sunday’s fixture against Durham, and all at Watford FC would like to wish them the very best of luck with their country.
