Women: Haines Looks Back On Goal & Durham Win

By: Watford FC Staff

Coral Haines appeared on Sky Sports' Women's Championship Show following Watford FC Women’s 2-0 away win at Durham, reflecting on her goal, the importance of the win, and the challenges given the side's part-time status.

The Golden Girls took an early lead thanks to Carly Johns' tap-in, before an excellent Michelle Agyemang cross-field pass found Haines who coolly finished to ensure the three points.

It feels so good. The win was a long time coming, and we have been playing very, very well over the recent weeks, so it just makes the win that much better for us all.

I think my goal was a tap-in! The ball came over from Mich [Agyemang] and I just closed my eyes and it hit me, and then I opened my eyes and the ball was right in front of me so I just tapped it in. It was a good feeling.

We are quite confident with how capable we are in this league anyway, but getting those three points and a really good performance against quite a physical side just cements how good that feels and how much we are working hard to, every single week, improve on each performance.

I think this is the first time I have ever experienced a relegation battle like this, but the girls are so amazing and we have stuck together. We have sat down and set our targets, and we spoke about how we move on from it and how we improve week in and week out to try and make sure that we show everybody what we are capable of.

We don’t think it is right that we sit in the relegation zone, we think that we are a lot more capable of competing in this league so definitely sticking together is going to help us going forward.

It is incredibly difficult because a lot of the girls would have woken up this morning (Monday), some even as early as 4.30am to go to work. Given we get in at whatever time we got in last night after a 500-mile round trip, and then going to work, and then maybe having a midweek fixture as well with two training sessions on top, it is just a testament to how well the girls do, and how well we stick together to make sure we come out and perform well on a Sunday.
