Women: Georgiou On Sheffield United & Togetherness

By: Watford FC Staff

Midfielder Drè Georgiou spoke to watfordfc.com after Watford FC Women fell to a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in the Barclays Women’s Championship at Bramall Lane.

She discussed the fixture, the Golden Girls having not played for six weeks and the squad's mentality going into the final six matches of the season.

Read what Georgiou had to say below:

The second half was a lot better than the first. The first 20 minutes we started off a bit slow and sluggish. Having six weeks with no game, that definitely showed in the first 20, but I am so proud of the girls for the second half. It was just unfortunate not to get the equaliser, if not the winning goal.

We had quite a few chances, and that is just the difference. They had one chance and they finished and we had a couple that hit the woodwork, and we just didn’t quite get the goal in the end. We certainly had chances, and it is just unfortunate it didn’t come out in a goal.

Second half definitely showed the togetherness. The couple of weeks we have actually experienced have been crazy, [so] for that performance in the second half is brilliant. We were so resilient [that] no-one would know what we have been through the past few weeks.

[It] just shows the mentality of the group that we have and whatever comes our way we are willing to push through it. Hopefully we have just got the cobwebs out of the way for not playing for a little bit, and hopefully on Sunday [against Lewes] we can get the three points.

We have six games coming up, and all six are so important. We are looking to get a win in all six of them, but whatever plans out will be. We are certainly going to put up a big fight on Sunday and hopefully if we start off how we did in the second half we can get the win.
