Stats Buzz: Sheffield Wednesday In Numbers

By: Watford FC Staff

Following a two-week break for international fixtures, the Hornets play host to Sheffield Wednesday as they look to turn their disappointing recent form around.

Ahead of the fixture against the Owls on Saturday (October 21, 3pm KO), here we take a look at all the stats, facts and figures surrounding the Sky Bet Championship encounter.

Previous Meetings

Watford have lost none of their last five league games against Sheffield Wednesday (W3 D2) since a 1-0 defeat back in December 2013.

Sheffield Wednesday are winless in their last seven league games against Watford as a newly-promoted side (D2 L5), losing each of their last three such encounters.

The Hornets kept a clean sheet in both league meetings against Sheffield Wednesday in 2020/21. They hadn’t done so in three successive league games against the Owls before.

Recent Form

The Golden Boys have scored two goals in each of their last three league games at Vicarage Road (W1 D1 L1). They last went four successive home league matches with at least two goals scored in September 2018 as a Premier League side.

Sheffield Wednesday are winless in all 11 league games this season (D3 L8), the worst winless run by a Championship team at the start of a season since Ipswich during the 2018/19 season (also 11). The Owls were the last Championship side to go their opening 12 games without a win, doing so in 2013/14.

Since returning to the Championship last term, Watford have drawn six of their seven league games against newly-promoted sides, including each of the last four.

Opposition Stat Attack

Since Anthony Musaba’s goal against Middlesbrough in September, Sheffield Wednesday have attempted 31 shots without scoring in the Championship and have the worst shot conversion rate in the division this season (5.8%).

Goalkeeper Devis Vásquez has attempted the most passes for Wednesday (329), while Bambo Diaby has made the most passes in his own half (209). Josh Windass has tried the most crosses (27), while Musaba has attempted the most dribbles (28).

Defensively, Di'Shon Bernard has made the most clearances (28) and Akin Famewo is top for interceptions (16).
