Stats Buzz: Preston North End In Numbers

By: Watford FC Staff

Following Tuesday night’s narrow defeat at home to Ipswich Town, Watford will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they travel north to take on Preston North End this Saturday (December 16, 3pm KO).

As Valérien Ismaël and his charges finalise their preparations for the Sky Bet Championship match at Deepdale, here we take a look at all the stats, facts and figures surrounding the contest.

Previous Meetings

Both of the teams’ meetings last season ended goalless. The only time Watford have failed to score in three successive Football League games against Preston was their first three such fixtures against the Lilywhites (D1 L2).

Preston have failed to score in each of their last three league games against Watford; they haven’t gone four successive games without scoring against a side in the Football League since July 2020 (run of six against Derby).

Watford have only won two of their 19 away league games against Preston (D7 L10), a 2-1 win in December 1979 and a 1-0 win in February 2021.

Recent Form

The Hornets have only lost one of their last four away league games (W2 D1), and could win successive league matches on the road for the first time since November 2022.

Preston have won just three of their previous 14 league games (D4 L7), though did win their most recent match against Huddersfield (3-1).

Watford have scored in each of their last four league games; the Golden Boys last enjoyed a longer such run in October 2022 (5 games).

Opposition Stat Attack

Manchester United academy product Will Keane has contributed the most goals among Preston’s ranks this season (5), while American international Duane Holmes has tallied the most shots on target (10) and assists (4).

Holmes’ midfield colleague Brad Potts sits top of the Lilywhites’ standings for shots off target (9), crosses attempted (61) and tackles attempted (55), and defender Jordan Storey leads the way for passes attempted (778) and interceptions (39).

Also a key contributor in the backline, Glasgow native Liam Lindsay has completed the most clearances (115) and blocks (27).
