Stats Buzz: Middlesbrough In Numbers

By: Watford FC Staff

Ahead of Middlesbrough v Watford on Saturday (May 4, 12.30pm KO), we take a look at all the stats, facts and figures surrounding the Sky Bet Championship clash.

Previous Meetings

Middlesbrough are looking to achieve their first league double over Watford since the 1971/72 campaign under former manager Stan Anderson.

Watford have lost their last two league games against Middlesbrough. Before this, the Hornets went unbeaten in 10 consecutive matches against them (W6 D4).

Watford have scored in 11 of their last 12 Championship games against Middlesbrough (17 in total), only failing to do so in a 2-0 away defeat in January 2023.

Recent Form

Since the beginning of March, Middlesbrough have won more points in the Championship than any other side (22 – W6 D4 L2), with them losing just one of their last 11 matches in the competition.

Since Tom Cleverley’s first league game in charge of Watford (March 16), no side in the Championship has kept more clean sheets (5) or lost fewer games (1) than the Hornets.

Middlesbrough lost 4-3 to Leeds in their last home league game; they last lost successive league games on home soil in February.

Opposition Stat Attack

Middlesbrough like leaving it late, with the side scoring more goals between the 76th and 90th minute (16) than any other 15-minute period. They are most vulnerable in the 15-minute period before half-time, conceding 15 of their 61 goals between the 31st and 45th minute.

Middlesbrough’s Emmanuel Latte Lath has scored in each of his last five Championship appearances (seven goals), netting a brace in each of his last two games at the Riverside. The last player to score 2+ goals in three home Championship appearances in a row in the same season was Chuba Akpom last season, also for Middlesbrough.

Latte Lath is the only Boro player with double figures for goals (15) this season, with the forward also having the most shots on target (40). Three players, Luke Ayling, Matt Crooks and Morgan Rogers, now of Aston Villa, have provided the joint-most assists (6).

Defensively, Dael Fry has made the most clearances (121), Lukas Engel has attempted the most tackles (68) and made the most interceptions (51), and Matt Clarke has made the most blocks (19).
