Stats Buzz: Leeds United In Numbers

By: Watford FC Staff

Ahead of Watford v Leeds United on Friday (March 29, 8pm KO), we take a look at all the stats, facts and figures surrounding the Sky Bet Championship clash.

Previous Meetings

Watford have lost just one of their last five Championship games against Leeds (W3 D1), though they did lose the most recent match 3-0 in the reverse fixture in September.

After winning three successive Football League meetings with Leeds between April 2014 and February 2015, Watford have lost each of their last three such encounters, two in the Premier League, one in the Championship, and have failed to score each time.

Victory for Leeds will see them do the league double over Watford for the second successive season, having also done so in 2021/22. They had only done so once in the previous 10 seasons together (1999/00 in the Premier League).

Recent Form

Watford recorded their first win under Tom Cleverley last time out against Birmingham; they last won successive league matches in December.

Watford are without a win in their last nine home league games (D3 L6); the Hornets have only failed to win 10 successive Football League games outside the top-flight once before, doing so in December 2004.

Leeds are unbeaten in their last 13 league games (W12 D1); not since December 1993 have they enjoyed a longer unbeaten run in the top two tiers of English football (14 games).

Opposition Stat Attack

Leeds like to start games quickly, with the side scoring the most goals in the first 15 minutes (15) compared to any other quarter period.

The side also boast the strongest defence in the Championship, conceding the least goals out of the 24 teams (28), as well as facing the least shots (361).

Georginio Rutter has 15 assists in open play in the Championship this season for Leeds United, the most of any player. Since Opta has this data recorded (2013/14), the only player with more in a season is Emiliano Buendía for current Leeds boss Daniel Farke’s Norwich City in 2020/21 (16).

Ethan Ampadu is another who plays a key role in this side, playing every minute of all 38 league matches so far, as well making the most blocks (32) and interceptions (52).
