Goalscorers Laken Torres and James Collins shared their thoughts after Watford’s Under-21s clinched a dramatic 4-3 win over Peterborough United at Vicarage Road.

Collins struck the Young Hornets’ first before half-time substitute Torres notched a quick-fire brace to bring the hosts level at 3-3 late on, and then Charlie Davis lashed in the winner four minutes into injury time to secure a first win of the PL Professional Development League season for Charlie Daniels’ side.

Torres

I got told to come on the pitch and show what I can do. I came on to help the team, and thankfully I managed to get two goals. He [Daniels] said to work hard, help the team out and get a result, and that’s that we did.

For the header, I knew Dawid [Hamiga] was going to chop it as he always does, so as soon as I saw the ball come into the box, it’s coming towards me and I knew I had to score. Thankfully I did.

Once I got that first goal the whole team’s momentum went up, and we wanted to go and get another one, and we got a result out of it.

You could see the emotion when we scored that winning goal. First I played it to James [Collins], James out to Charlie [Davis], and then Charlie did his magic with a great finish.

This victory is going to really get us up for the rest of the season, as now we’ve got a win we believe we can carry on putting in more performances and getting more results like this.

Collins

After we went 1-0 down I think we reacted well to get it back to 1-1. I thought we played well in the first half, kept the ball well and played well as a team. In the second half we let two goals in but we showed great spirit to get back in the game and win it 4-3 in the end.

For my goal - the free-kick - I thought the best way to do it was to wrap it round the wall. It was quite a tight angle so I went with that, and it went in so it was a good feeling to score that.

We had momentum and desire from the team, everyone together, and everything clicked together. We got the chances and we took them well in the second half. It was an unbelievable feeling to be honest - so much relief - and I feel like we deserved to win.

I 100 per cent think we need to keep this going now. We’ll all put the work in back at the training ground, and make sure we’re ready to go again against Crewe next time out.
