Reaction: Livermore & Sema Speak After Sheffield Wednesday Win

By: Watford FC Staff

Jake Livermore and Ken Sema gave their verdict on Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday (October 21), with Yáser Asprilla’s late goal clinching three vital points that pushed Watford up one place to 19th in the Sky Bet Championship standings.

Former England international Livermore completed the full 90 minutes in midfield at Vicarage Road, while Sema featured for the first time since early September following injury and made a telling impact off the bench.

Livermore

I think everyone’s played their part in the win today, which is great to see. We have to be patient with the way we play - it’s tactical with a bit of a slower build-up - and we know we’re going to have to wear teams down at times, like we’ve done today.

I thought the lads that started and the guys who came on all did a great job. We’ve got a great attitude in the camp - we’re all sticking together - and I think everyone’s shown a good mentality to make an impact, get over the line and get the job done in the end.

For the likes of Yáser it can be difficult when you’re not starting games, but he and the others got their chance later in the game, and credit to the manager for the timing of the changes. Collectively I thought it was a good match, and I have to give credit to Sheffield Wednesday for making it hard for us as well, but ultimately we got the job done and we’re delighted.

I think we have been unfortunate at times this season, and we could’ve had more points than we do in the table, but we also know we have lots of room for improvement. It’s a big week with the three games, and we’ve got off to the perfect start. That’s gone now though, and we need to make sure we build on it and try to improve with every game. That starts on Tuesday against Swansea, and we’re all looking forward to it.

I was right behind the challenge [for the overturned penalty], and I thought it was a great tackle. Credit to the referee because he was brave enough to change the decision, and I think it was the right call in the end.

Sema

It was nice to be back out there after quite a few weeks - I enjoyed it a lot, and it was obviously great to cap it off with the win.

As always I just tried to get forward and influence the game as much as I can with my pace and by putting balls into the box. I thought we were the better team, and that we deserved the three points in the end.

It’s always hard when you’re out injured and having to go through the rehab, but I just tried to stay focused on getting myself back as quickly as possible. I’m delighted to be back and it was great to see the fans at Vicarage Road again. Hopefully we can get another result at Swansea on Tuesday for them.
