Reaction: Lewis On Injury Return & Southampton Draw

Jamal Lewis called for Watford to be more clinical after a 1-1 draw with Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round at Vicarage Road.

The left-back made his first start since Boxing Day as the Hornets conceded a late goal to force a replay at St Mary's.

"Obviously they got a late equaliser and we are definitely disappointed as the boys put in a great shift," said Lewis to watfordfc.com.

"We want to put the final details together to pull through with the result. We had a good feeling on the pitch especially. Southampton are very possession-based; they keep the ball a lot in your half.

"We know we have some good running power in our team so we needed to display that and take advantage of it.

"We had some good moments; I think we could have been a little bit better on the ball. Hopefully for the replay we will be able to turn it over and be more clinical."

The afternoon started well for the Hornets thanks to Matheus Martins' early goal, direct from a free-kick.

"I think he sized it up and I told him that he can probably shoot from there," Lewis said.

"I wouldn’t mind getting the assist for that! But it was a great shot, great analysation of where the keeper was."

Lewis said he felt "great" after returning to the side after a hamstring injury, which saw him substituted at half-time during the 4-1 Boxing Day defeat at home to Bristol City.

"Obviously I'm finding my way back in after an injury which was probably due to the large number of games over Christmas," he said.

"I’m happy to be back, I just want to pick up where I left off and help the team win as many games as possible."

The replay will add to a congested fixture schedule for the Hornets but Lewis said it was part and parcel of playing at the top level.

"Whether you are in the Premier League or the Championship, there are many games to play," the on-loan Newcastle man said.

"It’s the life of a modern-day footballer, you have to deal with the schedule and come away with as many wins as possible."
