Reaction: Healey On His Blackburn Winner

By: Watford FC Staff

Rhys Healey spoke to watfordfc.com after scoring a dramatic late winner to help Watford down Blackburn Rovers 2-1 at Ewood Park and sign off for Christmas with a third consecutive away triumph.

The 29-year-old had barely been on the pitch for four minutes when he reacted first to a Leopold Wahlstedt save and converted from close range, moments after fellow substitute Mileta Rajović had made it 1-1 with his eighth goal of the season.

Having made a similar impact off the bench in the dramatic 1-1 draw at home to Southampton earlier this month (December 9), Healey now has two strikes to his name in his last four appearances.

Read his thoughts below…

It’s an unbelievable feeling. As a striker coming on to the pitch, the best thing you can do is score and I was lucky enough to score the winner. Mileta [Rajović] scored as well, and as we’ve seen before it’s the people who come off the bench who tend to have the biggest impact.

If there’s anything in the box, I’m either there or half there. Something I’ve always had is being in the right place at the right time, I was just lucky enough to be on the pitch today to score the winner.

It was a tough game, but we’ve come out with all three points because of the team spirit and how hard working we are. After the ups and downs of this season, we are all together, and when it was 1-0 we knew it wasn’t over. We kept belief in ourselves, and you’ve seen it in the second half there.

Before, in the hotel we agreed to do a little celebration if one of us scored – me, Ryan Porteous and Mattie Pollock - so we saw that at the end!

The fans were amazing again, and as soon as I scored I heard how loud they were. It brought back memories of when I was scoring goals at my last club, and it was a really good feeling.

December is the toughest month of the football season. We’ve seen over the last few games that this team is really strong, and this result will give us a huge boost going into Boxing Day’s match. I think everyone’s looking forward to being back at home, and hopefully we can pick up another positive result.
