By: Watford FC Staff

Daniel Bachmann spoke to watfordfc.com after the Hornets suffered a cruel last-gasp defeat to Southampton in the Sky Bet Championship.

Read what the goalkeeper and club captain had to say below...

We are just a little bit heartbroken and I’m baffled to be honest with you. It’s a tough one to take.

He [Southampton scorer Flynn Downes] came down and spoke to me afterwards and apologised for the situation.

Even the time added on, it was two minutes over as well. They added time and there wasn’t any stoppages.

Things like this happen but I’m just a bit lost for words as it’s so clear and obvious. It is what it is, it’s a tough one to take but we are proud of ourselves after coming from two down after having a terrible start.

The first 20 minutes was very poor, very sloppy. Poor goals to give away as well. The reaction was fantastic and we limited them to very few chances.

We have shown a lot of character to come back at a place like this. We’ve had a tough two weeks with lots of difficult games, away games too.

It’s just a really tough one to take. I went up to him [Downes] and said "come on mate, what are you doing?" He said that we would’ve done the same. I get it, I get the point he is making.

They want to win the game, they are in a promotion race so they are going to do anything they possibly can and today they’ve got away with that.

They are a good group of lads so I have nothing against them, it’s just a tough one to take, that’s all.

It’s hard to say [what the slow start was down to]. Their first was a well-worked goal. The midfielder ended up scoring with a late run into the box.

Things like that happen in football, it’s a good goal from their point of view and a bad one from ours. It doesn’t matter what time in the game it is. They started well and they were always going to with other results going their way.

They were going to come flying out from the start. We just got overrun and overwhelmed.

The fans have been absolutely fantastic again. When that goal went in I felt sorry for them. After the heart and desire that we showed I hope they are proud of us. We got wrongfully done today, things like that happen in football.

We’ve got to recover now. Like I said, we’ve had a really mentally and physically demanding two weeks so we have to reset now and rest for a day or two, and make sure we put that home form right as it’s been a long time since we gave the fans a win at home.
