Reaction: Andrews On Sunderland Winner

By: Watford FC Staff

Ryan Andrews spoke to watfordfc.com after scoring the winning goal in the Hornets' 1-0 success over Sunderland in the Sky Bet Championship.

The full-back came off the bench to fire home in the 64th minute - marking his 50th appearance in a Watford shirt in the perfect way.

Read what he had to say below...

Obviously today I didn’t start the game, but I knew when I came on I needed to show what I can do and just prove why I should be playing.

Tom [Cleverley] gave me the chance at half-time to come on. It’s an amazing feeling, especially on my 50th appearance and to do it at home is even better.

I saw Ismaël Koné running with the ball, and I saw a big gap between the two defenders. I knew if I was able to run diagonally into the space, he would play me the ball and I knew I just had to get my head over the ball and shoot across goal.

Every full-back enjoys getting forward as there are goals there to be scored and chances to be created.

You also have to do the dirty work defending as well!

We knew that as it was our last game at home, we had to show the fans what they wanted to see. No-one wants to be at the last home game of the season and lose.

It is a massive one for us because we gave the fans what they wanted to see in the last home match of the season.

Everyone wants to be playing every game and every minute of the season.

I feel like personally this has been a good first full season for me. I have played a lot of games and developed over time.

There are still a lot of things I can improve. It is frustrating to be on the bench but when you come on you need to show your abilities.

It’s a positive one for me. My family and friends are very proud.

I’m proud of myself as well as there have been a lot of moments during the season where I may have not had the confidence that I wanted every game, but I still got the game time I wanted.

I just went game by game and tried to do the best I could.

As a player, when you have those down moments, you need to get past them and try and do your best to overcome them.

We all want to get promoted next season. It’s not as easy as just saying it but if we stay as a team and work hard then it can be achieved.
