News: Hornets Pride Week Begins Today

By: Watford FC Staff

Watford FC is delighted to announce the beginning of the 2023/24 edition of Hornets Pride Week today (Sunday February 4).

The club’s ongoing dialogue with Proud Hornets – our LGBTQ+ supporters group – has led to the creation of an awareness campaign which runs each season.

This is carried out in partnership with the Watford FC Community Sports & Education Trust.

Hornets Pride Week this year will run until our home Sky Bet Championship clash with Leicester City on Saturday February 10 (3pm KO), where the initiative will be celebrated.

This year, the week will feature the national Football v Homophobia campaign – an international effort which aims to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression at all levels of football.

The campaign challenges football to take a clear stand against homophobia and transphobia so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful game.

It is hoped that football can lead the way in removing discrimination and Watford FC is proud to echo these aims.

Watford is pleased to confirm that our sponsorship of Herts Pride will continue, building on our commitment to the local LGBTQ+ community outside of the game.

Herts Pride is Hertfordshire’s largest LGBTQ+ festival, which will this year take place on Saturday August 31 in Cassiobury Park.

It will feature a wide range of stalls and catering, as well as a main stage with a diverse mix of entertaining acts and a dog show.

A launch event for Herts Pride 2024 will take place in the Sir Elton John Suite at Vicarage Road on Thursday February 8.
