Loan Watch: Goals, Assists And Debut Drama

By: Watford FC Staff

A goalfest, league debuts and two Hornets facing off were just some of the highlights for our loanees across the weekend.

Watford had representatives in the Championship, League One, the National League and abroad, with several players catching the eye…

Six Goal Thriller

Two on-loan Watford players were on either end of a thrilling 3-3 draw between Reading and Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Tom Dele-Bashiru notched an assist soon after the hour mark, playing a neat pass on the edge of the box that teed up Jonathan Swift to put the Royals ahead.

Andre Gray was brought into the fray with less than half-an-hour to go as Rangers chased the game.

Gray, on his debut, was able to slot home to reduce the deficit to one goal, with a Stefan Johansen equaliser eventually salvaging a point for the visitors.

Debut Displays

Mattie Pollock made his League One debut for Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon in an important 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic, which sees the Robins up to 14th in the table.

Pollock started and played 72 minutes at The Valley, and was praised for his defensive solidity in the centre of a back three.

Meanwhile, Domingos Quina played in Fulham colours for the first time since his deadline day loan move, but the Cottagers weren’t able to take any points from a trip to Bloomfield Road.

Quina played over an hour in an attacking midfield role against Blackpool, and will look ahead to visiting Birmingham City in midweek after a 1-0 loss.

Livewire Loanees

Dapo Mebude was once again a threat for AFC Wimbledon in their continued climb up the League One table. The Dons are now in fourth having beaten Morecambe 4-3 away from home.

Wimbledon have continued to be a dangerous attacking outfit with Mebude in the side, and although the young striker didn’t score or assist against the Shrimps, his dribbling and off-the-ball movement caused the hosts plenty of problems.

Elsewhere, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton made an important contribution for Yeovil Town as he assisted the first goal in a comfortable 3-0 win at Stockport County.

The Glovers have now recorded three consecutive wins in the National League and are up to sixth, with Lo-Everton key to the midfield’s creativity.
