Getting To Know: Charlie Davis

By: Watford FC Staff

The academy question-and-answer series shines a light on some of the best upcoming talent at Watford, quizzing a selection of Young Hornets about their journey in and outside of football.

Next up to take on the questions is 17-year-old midfielder Charlie Davis, who joined the club back in May 2013.

A first-year scholar, playmaker Davis was born and bred in Watford, and has risen through the ranks to become an integral member of the Golden Boys’ Under-18s side.

How would you describe your playing style?
I’m quite a creative player who likes to get goals and assists. I’d say I’m a box-to-box midfielder who always works hard and I feel like I’m a consistent player who is trustworthy.

Favourite current Watford footballer?
I’d say Tom Cleverley. Every manager at Watford has always relied on Cleverley during his time here because he is consistent and trustworthy on the pitch.

Biggest influence?
My dad and mum have been huge. It’s just the little things that they’ve done for me, like dropping me off at training and games. They have been my biggest influence to keep working hard, so in the future I can pay it back to them.

Favourite football kit?
The zebra 2020/21 Manchester United third shirt is probably my favourite!

Favourite pair of boots?
Probably the Nike Phantoms because they are the most comfortable boots out there. I currently wear all-pink Nike Mercurials, but I have a pair of Phantoms that I switch over to. They’ve stopped making the ones that I like.

Favourite footballing memory?
A couple of years ago we beat Manchester United at Vicarage Road and that’s a great memory for me. I was quite young, but it was the first time playing at The Vic and on a full pitch we beat them 4-2 on my brother’s birthday!

Matchday superstitions?
When I get changed, I always put my left sock on first. I have also started to wear a bracelet this year and I’ve played really well with it ever since. My dad and I got matching ones.

Most talented teammate?
George Abbott because of what he has achieved playing for Wales. He has even played with the first team this year and I’m really good friends with him. He’s a great player and he has done really well this season.

Favourite things to do when not playing football?
If I’m not playing, I’m watching Netflix. I’ve just finished Breaking Bad and it’s the best show I’ve ever watched. Drake’s latest album is great as well.

Best footballing advice you’ve received?
Train like it’s your last session. That’s always stuck with me because I want to be the best trainer out there.
