News: Christmas 2020 Toy Drive

By: Watford FC Staff

The year 2020 has been a challenging one for everyone. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected lives in so many ways and for many, the financial impact of the virus has been extremely tough. The change in circumstances will be keenly felt, especially among the most vulnerable and low income families in our society, as we approach the Christmas season.

For this reason, we are very pleased to be launching the ‘Christmas 2020 Toy Drive’ in conjunction with Elton House Care Home in Bushey and The 1881 supporters’ group.

We are hoping Watford supporters will help those experiencing economic hardship by providing suitable gifts for children aged 0-17. These will then be distributed to those families who are finding things tougher than normal this year.

We are looking for donations of new or unused gifts only; we are unable to receive pre-loved items. They should be unwrapped, with volunteers from staff at the club and care home on-hand to gift-wrap packages.

Drop-off points for donations will be available at the main Watford FC club reception on Stadium Way and at our Toy Drive partner’s location, Elton House Care Home, situated on Elton Way in Watford, WD25 8HA. If you would prefer to post your donated gift, please send it to Vicarage Road Stadium, Watford, Herts, WD18 0ER. Please could we ask that all donations are received by Wednesday December 16.

We will be sharing these gifts with those in our community for whom this time of year will be harder than usual, allowing their children to experience the happiness of receiving a present at Christmas.

We invite you to contact us with details of those who you know, who would welcome a Christmas gift for their young ones this year. Please email ticket.office@watfordfc.com with the name of the parent or guardian of the household you’d like to receive a gift, the name(s) of the children and their postal address and contact number.

Please see below a list of suggestions for suitable gifts for children of different ages:

0-3 years: rag dolls, teddy bears, soft toys, cot mobiles, baby clothes, bath toys, developmental toys e.g. stacking blocks.
3-5 years: dolls, action figures, toy vehicles, peg board puzzles, pre-school books, dressing-up costumes, age-suitable DVDs, colouring sets, books and crayons.
5-9 years: educational toys & games, stationery, school sets, arts & craft kits, family-friendly DVDs, story books, puzzle books.
9-12 years: sports equipment, board games, t-shirts, hats, gloves, scarves, hair accessories, reference books.
12-17 years: headphones, portable speakers, books, fashion accessories, nightwear, bedroom accessories.

Thank you in advance. We’ve no doubt that our supporters will once again show the family club spirit instilled in us over the years, and you’ll do what you can to provide those facing particular difficulties this year with a Happy Christmas.
