Been At Both: Five Who Have Played For The Hornets & The Millers

By: Watford FC Staff

With Watford travelling to Rotherham United in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday (February 17, KO 3pm), we’ve taken a look at five players who have turned out for both the Hornets and the Millers.

Lloyd Doyley

Hornets legend Lloyd Doyley made 443 outings in the Watford defence after joining the club at the age of nine.

He scored his first goal with a famous diving header against QPR on what was his 269th appearance for the Golden Boys, with his senior spell at Vicarage Road stretching between 2001 and 2015, including time in the Premier League.

Doyley went on trial with Rotherham after leaving the Hornets and despite being signed by then manager Neil Warnock, he played just three games for the Yorkshire club.

Will Hoskins

Forward Will Hoskins came through the youth set-up with Rotherham and made headlines aged 17 on Boxing Day in 2003, when he scored two late goals to seal a 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic.

Free-scoring for the Millers in his final season for the club, he joined Watford in 2007 in a combined deal which also brought Lee Williamson to Vicarage Road.

He went on to make 70 appearances for the Hornets, scoring seven times before departing for Bristol Rovers in 2010.

Domingos Quina

The Portugeuse winger arrived at Vicarage Road in 2018 after departing West Ham United, and went on to score three goals in 37 appearances for the Golden Boys.

He left Vicarage Road on loan on five occasions - the last of which was a spell with Rotherham last year which saw him make eight appearances.

Quina departed for Udinese in July.

Adam Thompson

Defender Thompson progressed through the academy ranks and in 2011 won a full Northern Ireland cap, three days before his Football League debut.

Thompson would play 16 times for the Hornets until 2014 as he spent notable time away from the club on loan.

He featured for Rotherham between 2019 and 2021, making 14 appearances for the Millers.

Paolo Vernazza

Creative midfielder Paolo Vernazza joined Watford from Arsenal in 2000.

He had come to England from Italy with his family at the age of nine and made 107 appearances for the Hornets, scoring three times.

In 2004 he left Vicarage Road to join Rotherham on a free transfer, where he would go on to make 27 league appearances.
