The Hornets confirmed the arrival of defender Ryan Porteous from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in January 2023, on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

A product of the youth set-up at Easter Road, Porteous spent a decade with Hibs, with the Dalkeith native having previously been snapped up by Aberdeen as a schoolboy.

Porteous swiftly rose through the academy ranks in the Scottish capital and, in the wake of a formative campaign on loan at Edinburgh City in the fourth tier, later made his senior debut in green against Montrose in the League Cup in July 2017.

He went on to feature more than 150 times for four-time Scottish champions Hibs, scoring 13 goals, and played a key role in the team that finished third in the top-flight in the 2020/21 season.

Having notched a debut goal for Watford - in a 2-2 draw against Reading - Porteous quickly established himself as a key player at Vicarage Road, and he finished the 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship campaign with two goals in 17 appearances.

Internationally, Porteous earned his senior bow for Scotland against Ukraine in September 2022, after previously representing his country through the age groups.
