Netherlands international right-back Daryl Janmaat signed for Watford in August 2016 from Newcastle United.
His debut season in yellow was frustrating at times - injuries proved a constant hurdle in 2016/17 as he made just 19 starts in all competitions for the Hornets, scoring in away defeats at Liverpool and Chelsea.
Battling with Kiko Femenía for the right back spot throughout the season, Janmaat scored twice before Christmas in 2017/18, away at Southampton and Crystal Palace, and capped the season with a fine run and finish against Chelsea at The Vic that won him the club's Goal of the Season award.
Competitiveness at right-back saw Janmaat make 22 appearances in all competitions throughout the 2018/19 campaign, but he demonstrated great versatility, sporadically drifting in as the right-sided center-back in Gracia’s infrequently-used five at the back formation.
A £5m signing for the Magpies from Feyenoord in July 2014, Janmaat impressed as he made 77 appearances for the North East club, scoring four goals – including a strike during Watford’s 2-1 win at St James' Park in 2015.
He’s also been a regular member of the Dutch national squad, including five outings at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, since making his international debut in 2012.
After starting his career with ADO Den Haag, Janmaat moved to SC Heerenveen in the summer of 2008 and spent four seasons with the Eredivisie outfit before completing a transfer to Feyenoord ahead of the 2012/13 season.
He played 74 times for Ronald Koeman’s side, scoring five goals and playing an important part as Feyenoord finished league runners-up during 2013/14.
