Watford FC Academy graduate Adrian Mariappa made a surprise but welcome return to Vicarage Road in 2016, after spending three seasons at Crystal Palace, making 49 appearances in his time at Selhurst Park.
He was forced to bide his time before getting regular minutes, putting in a string of typically assured performances late in the 16/17 season when the Hornets' back-line was hit hard by injury.
As ever, Mariappa put in solid performances during the 2017/18 season – and even captained the side against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
A Jamaica international, he joined Reading in 2012 before moving to the Premier League with the Eagles in September 2013.
Mariappa made 247 appearances in his first spell at Vicarage Road after graduating through the club's Academy, and the fan favourite was voted the Golden Boys' 2011/12 Player of the Season.
Off the back of making 30 appearances for the Hornets in 2017/18, ‘Mapps’ signed a new two year deal in August 2018.
He followed that up with 32 appearances in 2018/19, as the Golden Boys reached their first FA Cup final in 35 years and recorded their highest-ever points total in the Premier League.
