Under-23: Coventry 5-3 Watford
Watford's Under-23s' winless run continued this afternoon, as they lost 5-3 at Coventry City.
Harry Kewell's men were second best on the day, as a skillful and well drilled Sky Blues side came out on top.
Despite a typically hard-working display from the Hornets, with periods of dominance, goals conceded at key times proved costly.
It was an even start, but Coventry took the early advantage inside 10 minutes.
Despite an exceptional goal-saving block from Charlie Rowan, the rebound fell to Devon Kelly-Evans who rifled into the top corner for 1-0.
The hosts were in control, and it wasn't long before the lead was doubled.
Jack Finch rose highest and glanced Kyle Spence's corner into the net with Haviv Ohayon rooted for 2-0.
With barely time to settle, it was three, as Callum Maycock bent into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
The Hornets' frustration was audible, but they earned themselves a lifeline before the half.
A quick break opened up Coventry for the first time, and after an ugly scramble in the box, Ola Adeyemo forced the ball home for 3-1.
The Hornets returned to the pitch with renewed vigour after half-time and looked like they might get back in the game.
Substitute Dion Pereira saw an effort blocked on the line and Ogo Obi had a shot deflected over the crossbar as Kewell's side pushed forward.
But a moment of quality effectively ended the Hornets' chances of earning anything from the game.
Stepping up to a free-kick twenty-five yards out Jack McBean looked confident, and rightly so, as he found the top corner for 4-1.
Spence hit the fifth on the break for City, and despite consolation goals from Rhyle Ovenden and Ogo Obi it wasn't enough for the Hornets, who ended the game with 10 men as Rowan picked up a second yellow card in the closing stages.
