Ben Hamer put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Vicarage Road in July 2022.

The highly-rated goalkeeper arrived at Watford as a hugely experienced figure with more than 300 career appearances to his name, for the likes of Leicester City, Huddersfield Town and Swansea City.

Having started his career at Reading, Hamer made temporary moves to Crawley Town, Exeter City and Brentford, winning the 2008/09 League Two title and that season’s Golden Glove with the Bees.

More than a century of appearances for Charlton Athletic followed, with the Chard-born star helping the Addicks clinch promotion to the Championship by winning the third-tier in 2011/12.

Hamer moved to Leicester in 2014 where he enjoyed four productive seasons, while he also made his Champions League bow for the Foxes against FC Porto in the group stage in December 2016.

After moves to Huddersfield in the top-flight and Derby County, Hamer later settled at Swansea where he kept nine clean sheets in 23 games during the 2021/22 campaign before departing South Wales.

A regular squad member throughout his first term in Hertfordshire, Hamer made his debut for the Hornets in a 2-2 draw at Coventry City in April 2023.
