A pacey, energetic and smart finisher, Tommy Smith came through the Watford ranks making his debut for the first-team in 1997. Often deployed on the right, Smith was also capable of playing as a winger or a forward.
Following the Hornets’ relegation from the Premier League in 2000, he became a regular in the starting XI as the team sought a swift return to the top tier of English football. Smith’s impressive performances earned him a move to Sunderland, before joining Derby County.
In 2006 he returned to Hertfordshire with Watford back in the Premier League. His second spell proved to be extremely successful as the fan favourite won two consecutive Player of the Season awards between 2008 and 2009.
