Ian Bolton

Nationality: England
Position: Defender

Profile

A major figure in the club’s journey to Division One and described by Graham Taylor as his best ever signing, Ian Bolton joined Division Four side Watford in 1977 and within five years the club and Bolton had reached the pinnacle of English football.

Capable of playing in midfield and defence, Bolton’s passing abilities and explosive shot proved to be a valuable asset for the Hornets.

Despite Bolton’s tag as a defender/midfielder, he often got on the scoresheet and managed to find the net 36 times during his time at Watford including an unlikely strike from his own half against Rotherham.
