Zárate Signs For Hornets

The Hornets are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Argentine forward Mauro Zárate.
Comfortable playing as either an attacking midfielder or a striker, Zárate joins Watford in a two-and-a-half-year deal from Fiorentina, where he scored seven goals in eight starts for the Serie A outfit.
The 29-year-old returns to the Premier League having spent previous spells in the top-flight with West Ham, QPR and Birmingham City.
Having started out in Argentina with Vélez Sarsfield, Zárate spent a brief period with Qatari side Al-Sadd before making a loan switch to Birmingham in 2008, finding the net four times in 14 outings for the Blues.
A five-year stint with Lazio followed and Zárate played a key role in their 2009 Coppa Italia Final victory over Sampdoria, scoring four minutes into a 1-1 draw before converting during a successful penalty shoot-out.
After a year spent on loan at Inter Milan, and a return to first club Vélez Sarsfield during the 2013/14 season, Zárate joined West Ham in 2014 and went on to play 29 times for the Hammers, scoring seven goals.
The former Argentina Under-20 international also played four games on loan at QPR in the early part of 2015, and secured a switch from West Ham to Fiorentina in January 2016.
He will wear squad number 20 for Watford.
Return to shortly to watch Zárate’s first interview since joining the Hornets.

Graham Taylor OBE | Family Announcement

Watford FC is pleased to convey the wishes of Graham Taylor’s family in respect of his funeral service and an additional event at Vicarage Road Stadium in tribute to Graham's life and his achievements in football.

The service will take place at St. Mary’s Church, Watford town centre, on Wednesday February 1st at 1pm, followed by a private family committal.

Due to the number of people wishing to pay their respects, the make-up of the church congregation will be at the personal request of Graham's family – who have also stated a wish for family flowers only on the day, please.

Donations in lieu of flowers will be possible to Graham's nominated charity, the National Memorial Arboretum, via the following online link:

Mourners are welcome to be near the venue, with the service being relayed to those gathered directly outside St. Mary’s Church.

Graham’s family fully recognise that there are many more thousands of people from the local community – and beyond – who would wish to pay their respects and celebrate Graham's life.

They have therefore given their full blessing to the Hornets staging a tribute event at Vicarage Road Stadium, to be held just after the end of the current Premier League season.

This stadium-based event will act as a much larger-scale public tribute, and all proceeds from it will be donated to local good causes nominated by Graham’s family. A special edition tribute match programme, originally planned for Saturday February 4th, will now instead be produced for this event.

Exact details of this end-of-season tribute event will be published as soon as everything is confirmed.

In the meantime, on behalf of Graham’s family, Watford FC asks all its supporters to fully respect the plans for February 1st’s funeral service and private committal.
