Kevin Affleck tells us what went on during the Hornets' third day at their pre-season training camp in Austria.
There were hugs and handshakes all round this morning when Domingos Quina joined the tour party after getting the all-clear from the shoulder surgeon in Barcelona. The Portugal youth international is barely seen without a smile on his face but he was grinning from ear to ear, so pleased was he to be back in full training with his teammates.
He has been eased back into full contact by the diligent medical staff, but Josè Holebas thought he’d test just how ready the teenager is by thundering into him in a small-sided game. It was probably just what Quina needed.
Talking of Holebas, there seemed to be a secret competition between the full-backs in a high-intensity game towards the end of the afternoon session. The left-back rattled one in-off the post and caressed in another one in a similar manner to the goal he got against Cardiff. Not to be undone, Daryl Janmaat whipped one across Pontus Dahlberg and then, just to top things off, Kiko Femenía cracked two in quick succession past Ben Foster. It was finishing of the highest order.
Meanwhile after training had concluded, Javi Gracia spotted someone had dropped a 50 Euro note on the ground as he made his way out of the sun-scorched training facility this morning. He wasn’t going to do anything else than find the owner of the money but one of the coaching staff joked as to whether it could go towards the signing of a new player. It turns out the mislaid note fell from the pocket of Technical Director Filippo Giraldi, the man who spends the club’s transfer budget so wisely.
