Update | Zárate In Hornets' Squad

Watford FC can confirm that Mauro Zárate has been included in the Hornets' 25-man Premier League squad.

The club's request to amend its original squad was approved by the Premier League Board, after Nordin Amrabat's loan move to Leganés was completed in line with the Spanish Football Federation's transfer deadline on Friday evening.

Zeegelaar | “I Want To Grow”

After a few hours at the Hornets' London Colney Training Ground making sure of the dots and crosses on his Watford contract, new signing Marvin Zeegelaar sat down for a brief chat with watfordfc.com to discuss his move from Sporting Lisbon.

It wasn't a difficult decision to make, despite the prospect of Champions League football in Portugal, which would have included trips to Juventus and Barcelona.

Like so many of his peers before him, Zeegelaar explained how he has looked at the English top flight from afar and hoped the day would come when he might take part.

“Everybody wants to play in the Premier League,” he said.

“For me, it's the best league in the world. The football is good, the fans are great and the atmosphere is always loud. Every player you speak to, more or less, has the same idea.”

That opportunity and the ambition of the Hornets to continue making progress after two seasons in the Premier League were an important factor in his decision to leave Lisbon, and the former Ajax man believes he can bring important assets to the Golden Boys' cause.

"It's a good club, it's a club that wants to grow and I want to grow too. I just turned 27, I've played three years in the Portuguese league - one with Sporting Lisbon and two with a smaller club called Rio Ave.

"I like to get forward and cross the ball from left-back, if I can help going forward I will. I feel I have a lot to offer. I want to help us finish as high as possible. You can't look too far into the future but I'm delighted to be here and hopefully we can have a good run.”

Having never crossed paths with Marco Silva at Sporting, Zeegelaar sounded out those who did work with the Watford Head Coach before making his decision.

"I've heard very good things about the Coach. I never played under him, but everyone who I know that played under him said good things so I'm excited to join the group and start training.”
