Watford FC is delighted to have completed the signing of highly-rated England youth international Ben Wilmot for an undisclosed fee.
The 18-year-old defender, who joins the club from Stevenage, has agreed a five-year contract at Vicarage Road.
Wilmot has attracted firm interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs since making his professional debut in October 2017, going on to feature 15 times for the Hertfordshire side.
He earned his first England Under-19 call-up during the 2018 European Championship qualifiers back in March, and capped off an outstanding breakthrough campaign by being named 2017/18 League 2 Apprentice of the Year.

Awards: PFA Community Champions
Golden Boys defender Adrian Mariappa and Watford Ladies' forward Helen Ward have been named Watford FC's PFA Community Champions after they were nominated by the club’s Community Sports and Education Trust.
Both players have shown a commitment to their community throughout the 2017/18 season with a number of guest appearances at local activities and events, as well as engaging with fans and supporting the work of the Trust.
One such example was Mariappa’s visit to St Peters Primary School to open their brand new playground area, meeting the teachers, pupils and parents in an appearance that brought many a smile to youngsters and adults alike.
A further example of one of the award winner’s community ethic was Helen Ward’s appearance at a Show Racism the Red Card event at Vicarage Road Stadium earlier this year. Helen spoke to local school children openly and delivered a key message that any form of discrimination has no place within the game or wider society.
Although the award is solely for the 2017/18 football season, the community support of both Helen and Adrian stretches back much further than a year, both featuring in Watford FC’s CSE Trust’s 25th Year Anniversary commemorative book.
Community Director at Watford FC’s CSE Trust, Rob Smith, spoke about the players' ongoing commitment:
“With this being such a special year for the Trust, namely our 25th Year Anniversary, we wanted to acknowledge players that had not only shown great commitment to the community, and our work within it, this year, but also throughout our history.
“In his two spells with Watford, Adrian has always been a fantastic role model and we’re happy to be able to show our thanks for that.
“Helen has been a part of this community, growing up in Watford and playing for Watford from a young age, so it’s great to have her now with Watford Ladies and inspiring the next generation.”
