Watford made winger Gerard Deulofeu their first signing of the January transfer window after he joined on loan from Barcelona last night.

The deal to sign the 23-year-old is sure to excite Hornets fans, and the man himself confessed he is very pleased to be at Vicarage Road.

“I’m so excited to be here. It’s a great opportunity for me to get some minutes, to play well, play with confidence, and for me the most important thing is to help the team,” Deulofeu said.

“I’m here and I will work to play my best football.”

The Spanish international can list several high-profile clubs on his CV including the aforementioned Barcelona, AC Milan, Sevilla and Everton.

This will be Deulofeu’s third stint in the Premier League after spending two separate spells at Goodison Park, and he confessed that despite interest from other clubs there was only one place he thought about spending the rest of the season.

“I chose Watford because it’s a great team of the Premier League,” he said.

“I had different offers but I thought Watford is a perfect team for me and I’m the footballer to help Watford.

“I hope in these three or four months I can help the team and play well and win games.”

Deulofeu is available to make his debut tomorrow night at the Bet365 Stadium as the Golden Boys take on Stoke City.

He played his first game for two months during Barcelona’s 5-0 thrashing of Real Betis last weekend, and when questioned if he was ready to go, the Spaniard responded quickly: “Yes, yes. I am ready.”

He continued: “I trained yesterday with Barcelona so I’m ready for whatever the manager wants. If the manager wants me to play tomorrow, I am ready.”
