My Matchday: Étienne Capoue

The Golden Boys talk us through their matchday rituals, routines & habits.

On a matchday I’ll have breakfast as normal and then I usually just relax before the game.

I am happy eating whatever they put out for us at the training ground, but I especially like to eat fish and a lot of rice.

I have the same seat on the coach every time, but I’ll talk to anybody. I don’t really have a routine – sometimes I’ll sleep, sometimes I’ll talk to the guys and sometimes I like to watch movies.

I listen to anything; I like all kinds of music. I used to be the DJ in the dressing room but I let Andre [Gray] do it now!

I always wear a long sleeve shirt every game, no matter what, and I never wear gloves.

I always like to play in a new pair of boots and I have my wife and my kids’ names written on them every time.

I do have my superstitions but I don’t like talking about them!

If it’s a home game my family are here so I go and see them straight away. I rush myself to get ready to go and see them because they are always supporting me. It doesn’t matter what the result is, my kids don’t care and this is the most important thing for me.

Internationals: Pereyra's Argentina Progress

There were mixed fortunes for the two Hornets in international action over the weekend.

Roberto Pereyra had to settle for a place on the bench, having featured in Argentina's previous Copa América game against Paraguay, and remained an unused substitute throughout a 2-0 win over Qatar.

Goals from Lautaro Martínez and Sergio Agüero meant Argentina finished second in Group B and will now face Venezuela in the quarter-finals on Friday (June 28).

Dodi Lukebakio was fielded as the lone striker for Belgium Under-21s, who needed to beat Italy by three or more goals and hope that Poland overcame Spain in order to progress in the Under-21 European Championships.

As it happened, the Belgians went down to a disappointing 3-1 defeat, with Lukebakio - the Watford attacker who spent last season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf - featuring for the full 90 minutes.

It was their third loss in a row - having also fallen short against Poland and Spain - meaning the Red Devils return home from the tournament in Italy pointless.
