Mazzarri Praises Mason & Sinclair
Walter Mazzarri admitted that he was pleased with his first taste of FA Cup action, and praised the players that came into the side for his side's 2-0 win over Burton Albion.
He was particularly effusive about the performance of young full-back Brandon Mason who was making his full debut for the club, and provided the assist for Christian Kabasele's opening goal .
“I liked it a lot," the Italian told watfordfc.com.
"This tournament is highly considered in the UK. We didn't risk a lot for the whole match, and we controlled the game well at 2-0.
“It was very important to win. We needed this victory. Lately we have not been lucky with what has happened.
“Players are afraid that with their first chance the opposition would make them pay a heavy price. But it was good for us to control the game when we were two goals ahead.
“My players played well. Brandon Mason did wonderfully well on his full debut and assisted the goal of Kabasele.
“We had Mason with us in pre-season. It is important for young players to be with first team and make debuts, and important to see what we have got in our own house.”
Jerome Sinclair also repaid Mazzarri’s faith in him, getting his first goal for the Hornets in his second start of the season, and has come on as a substitute on five occasions since the start of December.
On the current list of absentees, Mazzarri was able to give a more positive injury update with important Premier League clashes against Middlesbrough and Bournemouth up next.
He said: “Cathcart is well and in perfect condition. Okaka is already back training but should be available [against Middlesbrough]. Behrami and Janmaat should be okay as well.
“Very soon we will have the whole squad back.”
