Tom Cleverley on returning to Old Trafford and how Watford can succeed against Manchester United

"It Brings Back A Lot Of Good Memories"

He’s returned to Old Trafford before with Everton, but Tom Cleverley is still looking forward to visiting former club Manchester United with Watford tomorrow (Sat Feb 11, 3pm KO).

The midfielder came through the Red Devils’ youth ranks and played 79 times for the first-team, but asked what kind of reception he expects from the United support, Cleverley said he’s giving more thought to securing another positive result for the Hornets.

“It’s a great stadium to play in and I’m just concentrating on the game, not on the reception,” he said.

“I’ve still got a lot of friends there and having played so many games at Old Trafford it brings back a lot of good memories.

“I grew up there since I was 12 so it’s always going to be a little bit different when I play against United, but once the first whistle goes it’s a game of football.”

Watford were 3-1 winners when the two sides met in September. That was before Cleverley’s arrival on loan from Everton, but the 27-year-old doesn’t believe that result will have too much impact on proceedings this weekend.

“I don’t think it affects things. It was a long time ago, I remember watching that game on tele,” he said.

“What matters most is the form that both teams are in. We’ve had some good results, they’re having a good bit of league form, so it’ll be a good game.

“We know they’ve got top-class quality all over the pitch so we’ll have to be as focused as we were against Arsenal and hopefully get a good result.”
