Internationals | Prodl Features In Austria Draw

Updated March 29

Sebastian Prödl rounded up a productive international break by playing the full 90-minutes in Austria's 1-1 friendly draw with Finland.

The central defender, who also played the full-match in Austria's 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Moldova, also provided a 68th minute assist for Stoke City forward Marko Arnautovic.

Prödl will now return to UCL ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Sunderland.

It was a successful weekend for the Hornets in international action.

On Friday night, Sebastian Prödl and Austria scraped past Moldova with two late goals, with Watford's defender playing the full 90 minutes. Austria have a friendly against Finland on Tuesday before Prödl can rejoin the Hornets at UCL.

And on Sunday evening, Craig Cathcart started as Northern Ireland continued their excellent home form by dispatching a disappointing Norway side 2-0 at Windsor Park.

Isaac Success made his senior international debut for Nigeria in a 1-1 draw with Senegal last night.

The Watford attacker was introduced as a 61st-minute substitute and the Super Eagles needed a late Kelechi Iheanacho penalty to clinch a draw in the friendly match played at Barnet's The Hive.

Meanwhile, Valon Behrami has been withdrawn from Switzerland's squad due to a thigh injury.

The midfielder was originally named in the Swiss squad ahead of their World Cup qualifier with Latvia tomorrow.

The international fixtures are almost upon us after a four-month break, but if you still need your Hornets fix there's a handful of Golden Boys in action for their countries next week.

Defender Sebastian Prödl is in the Austria squad for their World Cup Qualifying fixture at home to Moldova and a friendly with Finland, while fellow stopper Craig Cathcart makes the Northern Ireland squad as they host Norway in Group C.

Isaac Success could make his senior international debut for Nigeria after being picked for the Super Eagles' friendlies with Senegal and Burkina Faso. The winger has previously represented his country at youth level.

Under-18 Report | Watford 2-0 Cardiff City

A goal in each half from Louis Rogers and Dion Pereira secured a deserved three points for Watford's Under-18s against Cardiff City at UCL this afternoon (March 28).

In the Hornets' first league outing since returning from a successful trip to Japan, Dave Horseman's side wasted little time in stamping their authority on this afternoon's proceedings.

With the wind at their backs in the first-half, a long-ball could only be flicked behind by a Cardiff defender after just two minutes. Josh Roe's resulting corner found its way to fellow midfielder Louis Rogers, who had the simple task of nodding home from six-yards out.

The rest of the half continued in a similar fashion, with relentless traffic heading towards the Cardiff goal. Both Pereira and forward Treon Johnson were causing constant problems for the visiting defence, with the latter coming the closest, but he couldn't quite stab his effort on target from close-range.

It was central midfielder Roe, however, who came closest to doubling the Golden Boys' advantage in the first 45. His fine curling effort from the edge of the area was well saved by Cardiff's goalkeeper George Ratcliffe.

The second-half saw the Hornets continue to create chances, with home 'keeper Nathan Gartside well shielded by central defenders Max Ryan and Ben Jones and rarely tested.

Substitute Jubril Adedeji almost made an immediate impact upon his arrival, cutting in from the left before striking a thunderous effort which whistled just the wrong side of the upright before striking a long-range free-kick narrowly over too.

However, the second and match clinching goal did eventually arrive thanks to a Pereira strike in the 88th minute. The tricky winger was released through the middle before clinically finishing under the onrushing Ratcliffe and sealing the three points in the process.

HORNETS | Gartside (GK); Sesay, Jones, Ryan, Gordon (Trialist, 75); Stray (c), Roe, Rogers, Forster (Empson, 60); Pereira, Johnson (Adedeji, 60).
