International | Guedioura's Algeria exit AFCON 2017
Adlene Guedioura was unable to prevent Algeria exiting the African Cup of Nations at the group stages, following a 2-2 draw with Group B winners Senegal on Monday evening.
The midfielder once more played the full 90-minutes for his country in Gabon, but Algeria weren't able to hold on for their first win of the tournament despite taking the lead twice through Leicester City striker Islam Slimani.
Goals from Papa Diop and Moussa Sow denied the one-time AFCON winners a consolation win, with their elimination confirmed following yesterday's result and having picked up only two points from their three games.
On what was always going to be a tough night for Georges Leekens' men, Algeria needed to beat Senegal while also hoping Zimbabwe beat second placed Tunisia to have any hope of progressing through the group stages.
This came on the back of a 2-2 draw in Algeria's opening group game against Zimbabwe and a 2-1 defeat against Tunisia, with Guedioura also starting in both of those clashes.
The Desert Foxes failure to progress through their group means Guedioura will now return to UCL and will join up with his Watford team mates later this week.
