Foster: “The Win's Going To Come Soon”

A spirited fightback earned Watford a point against Arsenal, but the Hornets could have taken all three after racking up chance after chance in the second-half, according to Ben Foster.

“I was a bit disappointed to be perfectly honest, we were 2-0 down at half-time despite probably being the better team,” said the goalkeeper. “To draw the game 2-2, it’s great to get a point but three points were there for the taking.

“But you can’t take it away from the lads, they were fantastic today, in the second-half especially. We created so many chances, the win’s going to come soon.”

The Hornets managed 31 shots against Arsenal, which was the most the away side has faced since Opta started recording the statistic in the 2003/04 season, and Foster is not surprised at the number of chances his teammates are creating.

“That sounds similar to what our season has been like already this season,” he said. “I know we’re bottom of the league but in every game bar the first game we’ve had chances, we’ve had great possession, we just haven’t been clinical enough.

“It was a similar story tonight, we’ve created so many chances, the lads have been in such great positions and it’s just that final, last little bit, getting the ball over the line which has been the problem. It’s a start, it’s a great way to pick up a point and we can take that into the Manchester City game.”

Despite starting the game brightly, the Hornets conceded the first goal after 20 minutes and another soon after to leave them trailing 2-0 at half-time.

Head Coach Quique Sánchez Flores was disappointed to go behind but gave a level-headed team-talk ahead of the comeback, according to Foster.

“He was a little bit upset to be honest because we were so on form, the lads were flying and those two goals just took the wind out of our sails,” said Foster. “He [Sánchez Flores] said just keep doing what you were doing in those first 20 minutes, just stick at it and keep working hard, you’ll get the next goal and then anything can happen.

“In the second-half the lads came out and were absolutely brilliant. You could see the work rate, you could see the desire. I don’t know what it is, I don’t know if it’s the change of manager or what, but you can see the work rate today was just incredible from the lads, they were top class.”
