Heurelho Gomes joined Watford FC from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014, helping the team to promotion to the Premier League in his first year at the club.

The goalkeeper began his career with Brazilian heavyweights Cruizero. It took just one title-winning full season before he was whisked to Europe by PSV Eindhoven. This boy could play.

Four Eredivise titles later, and the now Brazil international Gomes was a man in demand around Europe.

Good form in the Netherlands earned him a multi-million pound move to the Premier League with Tottenham in July 2008.

Throughout his time at Spurs he played on the biggest stages. The Premier League, the Champions League. It was a difficult spell at times. He palmed away his fair share of criticism, not all of it just.

Following his release from Tottenham, Gomes made the short trip to Vicarage Road looking to ignite his career. He quickly became the Hornets' number one, making over 40 league appearances in his debut season for the Golden Boys, playing a crucial role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

Gomes had a point to prove, and successfully silenced any remaining doubters with a sterling campaign. His performances earned both the Players’ Player and Player of the Season awards at the end of the 2015/16 season.

He continued where he left off, retaining his Players' Player gong after another lauded campaign in 2016/17, and earned a new two-year contract in the summer of 2017 for his efforts.

Despite playing second fiddle to Ben Foster in 2018/19, Gomes featured throughout the Hornets' historic run to the FA Cup final and agreed a one-year extension to his contract in June 2019, extending his stay at Vicarage Road to a sixth season.

On the international stage, Gomes made his debut for Brazil in 2003 in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. He got some regular playing time for his national side in 2006 and was part of their 2010 World Cup squad in South Africa.
