Gracia: “You Need Something That Helps Confidence”
Javi Gracia feels like this 3-0 win over Coventry City is just what the doctor ordered to give the Hornets a boost of confidence after some bad luck in the Premier League.
“I think they are playing well, they have the confidence they need but when you don’t get the results you expect always you need something that helps you feel that confidence,” said the Head Coach.
“That in moments helps you to be luckier in some moments in different games. In the games we played so far in the Premier League I think we were unlucky in some moments, because we had chances, and we need to change that dynamic. Games like today are good for us.”
Gracia made 11 changes to his Watford side ahead of the Carabao Cup tie and was impressed with how the new additions bedded in as he looks to use the depth of his squad throughout the season.
“I think all the players who have played today did well,” said Gracia. “With the responsibility they have to have, and knowing it was a new chance for them, this chance is good to improve our confidence.
“From this moment we have to be ready with these players, and the players who didn’t play today, for the next game. All my players are important, and I think all of them will be important in different moments in the season.”
The Head Coach is focused on the Premier League and the trip to Newcastle United now, and will decide during the week whether any of today’s starters will keep their place in the team for Saturday.
“From this moment I know how important that game [Newcastle United] is for us because it’s the next one,” he said. “It’s not only important for the performance but also to get a good result because the players need it.
“We will decide [who plays] during the rest of the week, we need to prepare for the game, see how the players are and after we will decide the best option to compete in this game, because it’s a final for us and we have to play like that.
“I know what is my responsibility and at this moment in the Premier League I know we have to improve. I’m sure in the next game if we keep the level we are doing in the training sessions then we will have better results.”
