Gracia On Gray: “He Is A Very Important Player For Us”
By Kevin Affleck
Javi Gracia loves a selection headache. It means his squad is performing as it should be and he would rather have too many options as it beats having not enough.
He will therefore enjoying weighing up the merits of starting Gerard Deulofeu or Andre Gray at Wembley on Sunday after Gray provided a compelling case for his inclusion against Fulham.
The striker charged off the bench at half-time and energised the team. He linked up with Troy Deeney within minutes, created the second goal by winning the corner with a deflected shot, teed up the third for his big pal Deeney and then laid the fourth on a plate for Kiko Femenía to ram home. Gracia now has to decide whether to continue with Deeney and Deulofeu, who tore Cardiff apart, or promote Gray who has now helped settle four games in a row off the bench at Vicarage Road.
“All the time I have to take difficult decision,” said Gracia. “If you ask me about Andre Gray, it was the same after he scored important goals at home. He has always played well and I know he is a very important player for us. He is helping the team and I think he's only focused on the way to help the team.
“For the next game, we'll see what happens. I have to take difficult decisions. After his performance today, I have to think about that. I always try to choose the best option for the next game.
“When I choose the XI, I am always thinking what is the best for the team. But not only the 11 – it is difficult to put some out of the list when they deserve to stay. It is not easy but it is my job.”
