Cathcart: “We’re Disappointed, But It’s A Good Sign”

Hornets goalscorer Craig Cathcart was pleased to head in his third goal of the season - and second against Spurs - last night, but bitterly disappointed to lose at Wembley after Watford had led 1-0 at half-time.

With the defeat still fresh in his mind, the Northern Irishman tried to sum up his feelings after full-time.

“It was a really difficult game in the end, and we’re disappointed to lose the way we did,“ said the defender. “We held out for a really long time and when they got the goal we tried to keep it tight again, but the way they scored the final goal was disappointing for us and it’s hard to take.

“It’s still fresh, but when we take a step back and look we'll see that we’ve come away to a top-six team and given a good account of ourselves. To come away disappointed with a 2-1 defeat is a good sign.

“We are disappointed but we can be proud of the efforts we made.”

Cathcart has a habit of putting his head in where it hurts - a key trait for any centre-half - and admitted he was just trying his best to get in the mix when he scored the opener.

“The ball came across and there were a few bodies [in the way] so I just tried to get my head  in there and see what happened,” said Cathcart. “I was happy to see it go in and to go in at half-time 1-0 up, it was just unfortunate that it wasn’t the winning goal in the end.”
