FPL Review: Gameweek 27
By Sachin Dholakia
watfordfc.com's resident FPL expert Sachin Dholakia reviews the latest weekend of Fantasy Premier League action.
It was an outstanding Gameweek 27 for the Golden Boys as they secured a thumping 5-1 defeat of Cardiff at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday night.
Gerard Deulofeu (23 points) was in scintillating form, scoring a hat-trick and contributing an assist in a ruthless attacking display. The Spaniard’s haul was the highest individual FPL score of any Premier League player so far this season, and is only likely to be overtaken now by someone scoring points on a Double Gameweek.
Hornets captain Troy Deeney (15) also made the FPL Dream Team, scoring two late goals to seal the win and also contributing with an assist. Midfielders Étienne Capoue (5), Abdoulaye Doucouré (6) and Will Hughes (5) were the other assist providers as the points stacked up for the away side, A late Sol Bamba (6) consolation denied Watford what would have been their fourth clean sheet in five games.
Deulofeu (£5.5) is now the one of the most transferred-in players so far this week and has already seen a price rise. However, managers jumping on the bandwagon should take note of the Hornets having three of the top four away from home in their next four games, and are also set to miss a Gameweek due to the FA Cup Quarter-Final against Crystal Palace.
Elsewhere, it was a very quiet Gameweek with Manchester City and Chelsea not involved due to the League Cup Final, and Manchester United and Liverpool playing out a tame 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.
It was therefore a week for differentials to play an important part, as Henrikh Mkhitaryan (14) was the highest scoring player in the week after Deulofeu and Deeney. The Armenian scored a goal and provided an assist as the Gunners comfortably saw past Southampton at the Emirates stadium.
Crystal Palace secured an impressive 4-1 win at Leicester, with Wilfried Zaha (13) making it 22 points in two weeks with a brace and Luka Milivojević (9) sealing the win with a late penalty.
Salomon Rondón (12) scored his seventh goal of the season in Newcastle’s defeat of 10-man Huddersfield, and Allison (10) picked up all the bonus points in Liverpool’s 0-0 draw with Manchester United.
David Weale sneaked in front of Liam Moretti at the top of the Watford global league, but the gap between first and third is only four points with it all to play for. Marc Brackley notched an impressive 65 points to be the highest scorer in the Top 10 courtesy of Deulofeu. Congratulations if you made the Top 10 this week!
Tip of the week
The TV fixtures for April have been announced and we enter a period of teams having double gameweeks and blanks to factor in to our FPL teams. Make sure you’re aware of what’s happening over at least the next 5 weeks.
This includes the FA Cup Quarter-Final weekend where there are only 5 fixtures, and this could be the perfect time to activate your ‘Free Hit’ chip if not used already. This is likely to be a better option than waiting for the Semi-Final weekend, as more Premier League teams will be out of action now.
Players to Watch
1) Jamie Vardy (Leicester City, £8.8) could see an upturn in form after the departure of Claude Puel and the Foxes have some overwhelmingly favourable games, including a fixture in that all-important FA Cup Quarter-Final weekend.
2) Sergio Agüero (Manchester City, £11.6) is an obvious choice having scored two hat-tricks in the last three gameweeks, and Pep Guardiola is likely to start him every league game with the title race against Liverpool looking to go right to the wire.
3) Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool, £5.2) is likely to replace James Milner as Liverpool right-back with relatively easier fixtures to come. The Reds don’t face anyone from the top 6 for another four weeks, and will be determined to continue their push for promotion with wins and strong performances.
Likely Price Rises:
Solomon Rondón (Newcastle, £5.8), Raul Jiménez (Wolves, £6.8), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City, £11.3), Sergio Agüero (Manchester City, £11.6), Paul Pogba (Manchester United, £8.8)
Likely Price Falls:
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United, £7.3), Fernando Llorente (Tottenham, £5.7), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal, £11.1), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace, £4.6)
Best of luck for Gameweek 28 FPL managers!
