Femenía: “We Can Hurt Them”

Kiko Femenía is convinced the Hornets are capable of beating Arsenal this afternoon, but thinks the team must be at their most clinical and disciplined if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation.

A result at the Emirates could see Watford escape the bottom three on the final day, depending on how things pan out in the Aston Villa and Bournemouth games.

“They have some really good players, but we need to be aware that we can beat them, we can hurt them,” said Femenía.

“Over the last few seasons we’ve had a few good results, even this season we drew at home, 2-2. We just need to forget about the opponents and do whatever we have to do.

“The plan is to stay compact and be a team, and act as a team. I think we can hurt them with our counter-attacks. But we just need to take our chances, because I think that’s what we’ve been lacking, but I think we’re going to do it.”

There have been highs and lows throughout the course of this unpredictable 11-month season, but Femenía says all focus must be on what lies ahead as the campaign boils down to one all-important final day.

“There have been lots of ups and downs, but it’s not the time to think about that at the moment. We just need to look past it and now for us it’s a final,” said the 29-year-old.

“I don’t think the confidence is too low at the moment. Obviously, when you can’t win it’s difficult for your confidence, but I think we’re alright. I think we have good weapons to hurt them and I think we just need to get the three points.

“We just need to give everything, we need to be confident that we’re going to do it well, we need to be positive that we can win.”

Like every match since the restart, the final day will be played out in front of empty stadiums, but the Hornets faithful remain at the front of Femenía’s mind and he wants to put in a big performance to repay all the support offered so far.

“We want to give them some final joy, obviously it’s not been an easy season, not a good one for us, so of course they’re not going to be happy with us, we’re not happy either,” he said.

“We can just promise that we’re going to fight until the end, because the club deserves to be in the Premier League and the fans as well.

“We believe it’s going to be down to us, so we just need to win. I have seen the team train really well during the week, we can’t put too much pressure on the team, we need to be strong and just take the three points, and we’re convinced we’re going to do it.”
