Dja Djédjé | “I Felt Really Fit Out There”
It was an afternoon to remember for Brice Dja Djédjé on Saturday as the Ivorian made his competitive debut for the Hornets in the FA Cup following a lengthy spell out due to injury.
The wide-man arrived in the Summer from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, but suffered from a lengthy injury which delayed his involvement for Mazzarri’s side.
After an eight-month absence, Djédjé was delighted to be back playing and to have made his debut in front of the home-faithful.
“I’m delighted to have played today after eight long months out injured. Making my debut is a great moment that I’ve been waiting for since I arrived here,” he explained speaking to watfordfc.com after the match.
“I felt really fit out there and I’ve been working really hard over the last few months with the medical staff, as well as outside of training too. Having the chance to play for the team for the first time is special because I’ve worked very hard and it’s been difficult being out for such a long time.”
Djédjé was equally happy to have made his debut at home, and is now looking forward to the remainder of the season with the Hornets.
“Making your debut at home is great too, because it can be a while before you get to finally play in front of the fans,” he explained.
“It was fantastic to make my debut in the FA Cup, it makes me think of the French Cup but it’s slightly different to France.
“Playing today was great and even more so as it was in this competition. I just want to progress now and keep playing here at the club and impress the fans at Vicarage Road.”
Walter Mazzarri was equally delighted to have another option as he welcomed Djédjé back into the side.
“It’s incredible that he was back ahead of schedule as he was meant to be back in full training on Monday morning,” he said, speaking in his post-match press-conference.
“We know what kind of player he is and what he can bring to the team, but it’s important that we do not rush him back and that he has more time.”
