Deulofeu: “The Results & Wins Will Come”
Gerard Deulofeu says the fight shown by his Hornets teammates in yesterday’s defeat at table-topping Liverpool will serve them well in their bid to climb out of the bottom three.
On another day, Watford might have taken more from Nigel Pearson’s first game in the dugout and the manner of their performance should provide a timely boost ahead of next Sunday’s visit of Manchester United.
“We were pressing high and playing with confidence,” said Deulofeu in the Anfield tunnel after full-time. “If we don’t be nervous, I believe the results and wins will come.
“We have been all season in this part of the table and with a new manager it’s important we continue to fight, especially with lots of matches in the next few weeks.
“We need to play like we did today in every game and try and get away from the bottom of the table.”
Deulofeu was one of a few Watford players presented with good scoring opportunities on Merseyside, and the Spaniard believes composure in front of goal was the only difference between the two sides.
“We knew it would be really tough but I think we performed really well. We are not happy though because we lost again,” he said.
“They took their chances and they won, so now we have to keep going and pushing hard. If we scored the first one or the second one, and the chance I had myself, it could have been different because they were good chances.
“The keeper did well but you have to score, otherwise they kill you.”
